How is the money used?

The money raised at Auction for the Arts is used to support arts—and mostly art education programs—here on Bainbridge. This is a unified-funding event, and the funds are distributed evenly between Bainbridge Performing Arts, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts, the Bainbridge Chorale and Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities Council.

Here's a sampling of how the money was spent during the past year:

BPA continued its excellent theater school and acting classes. The Bainbridge Chorale brought blues artist T.J.Wheeler to the island for two days of workshops at Sakai Intermediate School and at Bainbridge High School. The Arts & Humanities Council brought former United States Poet Laureate Billy Collins to the high school, and produced the Great Decisions discussion series at the library. BAC's Gallery on Winslow Way hosted shows featuring the art of Woodward Middle School students and Bainbridge High School students, and continued its grant program which provides money for art supplies in our public schools. This is a sample. These four organizations all have far-reaching programs that impact many activities and events.

So Let's Fund Our Arts Programs!

Every dollar raised for the Arts benefits Bainbridge Island a hundred-fold. Art colors an otherwise black & white existence. And our vibrant Arts community inspires artists, singers, actors and writers, and encourages them to believe in their talent.

Take a look around, and you'll find few communities our size that are so rich, so inspiring, so interesting. Many of us have found our way here because we value all that Bainbridge offers. Now is the time to come together as a community, and at one big fun blow-out party raise the funds to keep this good thing going.
